Ready to Learn cover

NASP is a nonpartisan professional organization and does not endorse political candidates or "rate" sitting elected leaders. Our advocacy efforts focus on specific issues that support children's learning and development and school psychology.

That said, NASP congratulates President-Elect Barack Obama on his historic victory. We look forward to working with leaders in his Administration, as well as leaders at the state and local levels, to craft education policies that will help all of America’s children achieve their fullest potential.

NASP offers for inclusion in this debate an education policy platform, Ready to Learn, Empowered to Teach: Excellence in Education for the 21st Century, which outlines five principles necessary to ensure excellence in education by lowering barriers to learning and teaching.

NASP believes that providing quality, genuinely accessible education for all children is our nation’s most important responsibility and wisest investment. Services that lower barriers to learning are not ancillary to this mission but rather central to the supportive educational process necessary to prepare all of America’s children for academic success, healthy development, and responsible citizenship.

NASP is committed to working with our nation’s leaders, educators, parents, and others concerned with helping children achieve their best. We encourage our members and others to disseminate Ready to Learn, Empowered to Teach: Excellence in Education for the 21st Century as part of the effort to shape education policies that support the needs of the whole child and truly enable teachers to teach and children to learn.

We also encourage you to read President-Elect Barack Obama’s education policy plan as well as the policy recommendations of other education organizations.
