NASP 2009 Annual Convention

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Credit

NASP recommends that convention attendees complete Activity Documentation Forms, available in the NCSP renewal booklet and in convention packets, for each convention activity completed.

NASP is approved by the American Psychological Association (APA) to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. NASP maintains responsibility for this program and its content. NASP also is recognized by the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC) to offer continuing education for nationally certified counselors (NCCs). The National School Psychology Certification System no longer requires CPD credit in predetermined areas. Rather, each school psychologist is expected to develop a personal plan for the required 75 hours of professional development that includes a broad range of experiences and topics. Beginning in January 2009, all renewal applicants must complete 3 contact hours of professional development training in the area of ethics or professional practice.

For information about the categories in which you can earn CPDs, including ceiling limits, please review the NCSP renewal guidelines at www.nasponline.org/certification.

Participants wishing to claim CPD credit for their activities during the convention must evaluate each learning activity by asking themselves the following four questions:

1. Did the activity enhance or upgrade my professional skills or add to my knowledge base?
2. Was the activity relevant to the professional practice of school psychology?
3. Did the activity fit into my personal plan for continuing professional development?
4. Did the activity go beyond the ordinary aspects of my employment?

Participants must judge each activity according to its “fit” with their personal plans for professional development. To facilitate this planning, convention workshops have been coded according to the professional practice domains outlined in the NASP Standards for the Credentialing of School Psychologists. Practice Domain (PD) codes are outlined in the table below.

Members of the NASP Professional Development Committee will be available on site in the NASP Village during the convention to answer your questions. Check your convention final program for more information about documenting your CPD credits.
